## How do you answer employee policy questions?

To answer employee policy questions, give Maito your handbook and let people ask in Slack. When someone mentions Maito, it finds the matching policy, answers for that person's country and situation, quotes the conditions and notice periods, and points to the source section so HR does not repeat the same answers.

HR answers the same questions in DMs every day.

## Example

**Jo** (10:02 AM):

How much parental leave do we get in the UK? I'm due March 20.

**Maito** (10:02 AM):

Northstar UK gives 26 weeks of parental leave. The first 12 are at full pay, the remaining 14 at statutory pay. You can take it in one block or split it into two.

**Check the dates:** the policy asks for 8 weeks' written notice, so for a March 20 due date yours is due by January 23. It also needs 6 months of service by the due date, which you meet.

From the UK Leave Policy, section 4.2 of the handbook. Your exact pay depends on your contract, so I've asked Rosa in HR to confirm it with you directly.

Can you draft the notice email to her?

**Maito** (10:06 AM):

Draft ready. It gives your due date, says you plan one block starting February 23, and asks Rosa to confirm pay. Change the start date if that's not right, then send it yourself.

## What it won't do

Maito answers from the policies you give it. It does not give legal advice, and it cannot decide exceptions that belong to HR.

### Where does it get the answers?

From your handbook and policies, which Maito keeps as company knowledge. It answers from them rather than from general HR advice.

### Does it work in private?

Employees can email the workspace address or mention Maito in a thread. It only reads a Slack thread after it is mentioned there.

### What if the policy is unclear?

Maito says what the policy states and where it is silent, then suggests asking HR. It does not make up a rule.
