# Submittal Register: A First Draft From the Spec

## How do you build a submittal register from a spec package?

To build a submittal register from a spec package, share the spec files with Maito in Slack. It reads each section, lists every required submittal with its section number, page and type, compares the list with your standard checklist, flags missing references, and attaches the draft register as a spreadsheet.

• 03 30 00, p. 14: concrete mix designs  
• 07 21 00, p. 22: insulation product data  
• 08 11 13, p. 31: door hardware schedule

Compared with your checklist, 3 usual items are not in the spec: roofing warranty, paint color samples, fire-stopping details.

**Catch:** section 08 11 13 says to follow the hardware schedule in Division 01, but no Division 01 file was in the package. Section 09 91 23 requires a mockup that isn't listed as a submittal anywhere.

Every row is a candidate until you've checked it.

## What it won't do

It is a first draft. A person still checks every row against the spec, and anything the spec leaves implied can be missed.

## Questions

### Where does it read the specs?

From Google Drive, Box, Dropbox, Notion or Microsoft 365. The register comes back as a spreadsheet, or in Airtable or Microsoft 365.

### How do I know it found everything?

It cites the section and page for every row, and lists references to files that were not in the package, such as a missing Division 01.

### Can it ask the architect for a missing file?

It drafts the email and waits for your approval. It holds the register open until the file arrives.
