# Scenario Analysis: Rerun the Forecast on What-Ifs

## How do you build a forecast scenario?

To build a forecast scenario, ask Maito your what-if in Slack, such as hiring five engineers in Q3. It reads your forecast in Airtable or Microsoft 365, applies your assumptions to a copy, and reports the change in burn, cash and runway next to the current plan, noting costs the model leaves out.

Each scenario takes a day in a spreadsheet.

## What Maito does

## Example

**Omar** (11:20 AM):

what if we hire 5 more engineers in Q3, starting Aug 1? Fully loaded at $185k each.

**Maito** (11:24 AM):

Burn goes up $77k a month from August, and runway drops from 22 months to 18.

• Current plan: $1.42M burn this year, $9.8M cash at Dec 31.  
• With 5 hires: $1.80M burn, $9.4M cash.  
• Cash-out date moves from Oct 2028 to Jun 2028.

Catch: your model books recruiting fees at 0%. At a typical 20% of salary that's about $185k across the 5 hires, which costs another 5 weeks of runway. I left it out of these numbers.

**Omar** (11:30 AM):

rerun with the recruiting fees, and hire 3 in Q3 and 2 in Q4.

**Maito** (11:33 AM):

Runway is 19 months with fees and the split hiring. Updated copy attached. The CFO should check the assumptions before it's shared.

## What it won't do

Maito recalculates your model, so the result is only as good as the model and the assumptions. It is a planning aid, not financial advice.

## Questions

### Does it change my forecast file?

No. It works on a copy and attaches the scenario, so the original model stays as it is.

### Which tools does it use?

Spreadsheets in Airtable or Microsoft 365.

### Can it use my own assumptions?

Yes. You give the numbers, and it uses them and shows what it assumed for anything you left out.
