# Construction RFI: Draft It and Keep the Answer

## How do you write a construction RFI?

To write a construction RFI, tell Maito in Slack what looks wrong between two drawings. It checks both sheets and the latest revisions, drafts the RFI with the question, affected tasks and the response date from your contract, sends it after you approve, logs it, and attaches the answer to the tasks when it arrives.

**Jess** (11:20 AM):

The beam depth at gridline D looks different on the architectural and structural sheets. Draft an RFI.

**Maito** (11:24 AM):

Draft RFI-023 for the architect.

**Question:** Drawing A-301 Rev C shows a 12 in. beam at gridline D. S-201 Rev B shows 14 in. Which governs, and should the other sheet be reissued?  
**Impact:** framing task T-114 and ceiling task T-118.  
**Response needed:** Oct 28, 7 days per the contract.

**Catch:** The RFI register still lists S-201 as Rev B, but Rev C came out Oct 9. I checked Rev C too: it also shows 14 in., so the conflict stands. RFI-017 answered a similar question at gridline C.

## What it won't do

It spots conflicts in the files it is given. It does not decide which drawing governs, and it cannot see what a drawing set leaves out.

### Does it find the conflict itself?

It checks the sheets you name and the revision register. You point it at the issue, and it tells you whether the conflict stands on the latest revisions.

### Which tools does it use?

Drawings in Google Drive, Box, Dropbox, Notion or Microsoft 365, your RFI register through a skill for Procore or Buildertrend, and email in Gmail or Microsoft 365.

### Will it send the RFI on its own?

No. It sends to the architect only after you approve.
