# Appointment Deposit: Hold Dates Until It Is Paid

Maito holds the dates, works out the deposit, drafts the request for approval and releases the hold if payment never arrives, all from Slack.

Dates are held for a day while the deposit request goes out, then released if no payment arrives.

## How do you hold dates until a deposit is paid?

To hold dates until a deposit is paid, tell Maito the hold time and deposit rate. When a request arrives, it holds the dates, works out the deposit from your price list, drafts the request for approval, confirms the booking once billing shows payment, and releases unpaid holds.

## How it's done today

Staff send payment links and check by hand who has paid.

## What Maito does

1.  Hold the requested dates for 24 hours
2.  Work out the deposit from the price list
3.  Draft the deposit request
4.  Confirm on payment or release the hold

## Example

Loop run: Holiday boarding request in the booking system

**Maito** (11:40 AM):

Boarding request from Karen Ames for Biscuit (Lab, 3 years), Dec 22 to 29, 7 nights. Kennel 3 is held until tomorrow, Oct 20, 11:40 AM.

• 4 nights at $55: $220  
• 3 peak nights (Dec 24 to 26) at $65: $195  
• Total: $415. Deposit at 30%: $124.50

Catch: the booking form priced all 7 nights at $55, $385. The price list has a peak rate for Dec 24 to 26.

Deposit request is drafted below with the corrected total. It goes out only when you approve.

Sent to Karen. I'll confirm the booking when the $124.50 shows in billing, and release Kennel 3 tomorrow at 11:40 AM if it doesn't.

## What it won't do

It won't take payments or confirm a booking without a payment record. Prices it isn't given stay unknown, so it asks.

## Questions

### Does it send the deposit request on its own?

No. It posts a draft in Slack and sends it only after someone approves.

### How does it know the deposit was paid?

It checks your billing tool, Stripe or PayPal, and confirms the booking only when the payment shows there.

### What if the booking form priced the stay wrong?

It rebuilds the total from your price list, such as peak-night rates, and tells you where the form differed.
