# Law Firm Conflict Check: Candidate Matches in Minutes

Maito pulls party names from a new enquiry, searches past matters under name variants and posts possible matches with sources for the attorney to rule on.

New parties are searched across your matters under every spelling, with the source of each hit for the lawyer.

## How do you run a law firm conflict check?

To run a law firm conflict check, forward new enquiries to the workspace address. Maito pulls the party names, searches your matters under name variants and aliases, and posts possible matches in Slack with the source of each. It never rules a conflict in or out. The attorney records the decision.

Staff search the matter system for each name variant by hand.

## What Maito does

1.  Normalize the names and variants
2.  Search matter records
3.  Show each possible match and its source
4.  Record the lawyer's decision

## Example

**Catch:** the current-client hit is the one that matters. Aliases came from the matter notes, not the entity names, so a plain name search would miss it.

## What it won't do

It can only match what is in your matter records. A missing alias or an unrecorded relationship will not show up.

## Questions

### Does it say there is no conflict?

No. It posts candidates and sources only. A person decides and records the outcome.

### How does it search past matters?

Through a skill that signs in to your practice management software with a login stored in the Vault. It also searches aliases mentioned in matter notes.

### Does it message the prospective client?

No. It only posts in Slack. Anything sent to the enquirer waits for your approval.
