Maito vs Claude Tag

Anthropic turned Claude in Slack into Claude Tag. Is it the same as Maito? And what if your team doesn't only use Claude?

Is Claude Tag the same as Maito?

No, but they are close. Both are AI teammates your team tags in Slack. Claude Tag runs only on Claude and bills by usage. Maito works with the AI provider and model you choose, outside Slack too, for $149 per workspace per month plus that provider's usage.

Both let a whole channel work with one agent, remember the team, open pull requests, and run scheduled work. Claude Tag is set up once by a Claude organization Owner and a Slack admin and billed to your Claude organization by usage. Maito is set up by connecting an AI provider, Slack, and your tools, and anyone in an invited channel can ask. Maito's included $20 in cloud credits covers coding sandboxes and web search; beyond that you buy credits.

What is Claude Tag?

Claude Tag is Anthropic's way to give Claude work inside Slack, available in beta on Claude Team and Enterprise plans.

You tag @Claude in a channel, and it works on the task with your organization's tools and shared context. Everyone in the channel works with the same Claude, so anyone can steer it or pick up its work. It keeps memory per channel and per workspace, opens pull requests through the Claude GitHub App, and can schedule its own follow-ups. Claude Tag replaced Claude in Slack on August 3, 2026.

And what is Maito?

Maito is a shared AI teammate that isn't tied to one AI vendor: it runs on the provider you choose and works in Slack and in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, Grok, and Muse.

Anyone in an invited Slack channel can ask it for work, without a Maito account, and others can join the thread to steer it. It handles research, reports, and follow-ups in your connected tools, and code changes in a sandbox per task, with your checks, browser QA, and a pull request.

@Maito a customer says the search box returns nothing when they type an accented name like "José". Ticket #8150.

MaitoAPP9:41 AM

Reproduced. Search lowercases the query but doesn't strip accents, while the index does, so "José" never matches. Recording attached. PR #1104 normalizes accents on both sides and adds tests for Spanish, French, and German names. Checks pass. Reply to the customer is drafted below.

Each Maito coding task runs in its own sandbox, branch, and checkout, so several can run at once without touching the same files.

What do Maito and Claude Tag cost?

Maito costs $149 per workspace per month with unlimited people, plus your AI provider's usage and any cloud credits beyond the included $20. Claude Tag needs a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, and its channel work is billed to your organization by usage.

Maito

$149 per month + provider usage

  • One workspace, unlimited people
  • $20 in included credits for coding sandboxes and web search
  • Your AI provider bills its usage at its own rates

Claude Tag

Claude plan + usage

  • Needs a Claude Team or Enterprise plan
  • Channel work is billed to your organization by usage
  • Spending caps per organization and per channel

A Standard Claude Team seat costs $20 a month on annual billing, and not everyone who tags Claude needs one. Both bills grow with the work: Claude Tag's on your Claude organization, within the caps your admins set, and Maito's on your chosen provider's account, at that provider's rates.
