Claude Tag vs Adapt
Claude Tag gives you Anthropic's Claude in Slack. Adapt gives you a platform for your own company agent. Which one should your team pick? And how much control do you really need?
What's the difference between Claude Tag and Adapt?
Claude Tag is a ready shared agent from Anthropic that runs only on Claude and only in Slack. Adapt is a company agent platform that routes work across many models, reaches Slack, the web, email, and iMessage, and can run on your own infrastructure.
Claude Tag makes most decisions for you: one model family, one chat app, Anthropic's cloud. Adapt leaves them to you: which models, which keys, which templates, which deployment. For a team that trusts Claude and lives in Slack, fewer decisions is the point. For a team with a platform group and strict requirements, the decisions are the point.
What is Claude Tag best at?
Claude Tag is best at getting one capable Claude working in Slack channels with little ongoing effort, once an owner has set it up.
A Claude organization Owner and a Slack admin connect credentials and repositories and choose channels. After that, anyone allowed can tag Claude, steer the shared session, and get pull requests from the Claude GitHub App. Memory is kept per channel, per DM, and for the workspace.

What is Adapt best at?
Adapt is best at running a company agent your way: model routing or your own keys, detailed governance, and deployment in your VPC or on premises.
It connects to tools like Salesforce, Linear, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Stripe, and GitHub; keeps a company brain of knowledge, skills, memory, and live search; and turns issues into tested pull requests. Governance includes scopes, approvals on named actions, budgets, traces, identity-provider roles, and audit records.

How do Claude Tag and Adapt compare at a glance?
Claude Tag is ready but tied to Claude and Slack. Adapt is open to any model and surface but asks for platform decisions.

Why does model choice matter between Claude Tag and Adapt?
With Claude Tag, every task runs on Claude at Claude's rates. With Adapt, routine work can go to cheaper models and hard work to the strongest, or run on keys you already pay for.
For a team doing lots of routine work, such as summaries, triage, and weekly reports, routing changes the bill. Adapt charges no markup on your own model keys and 5.5% over list price through its gateway.
Being tied to Claude isn't a flaw for a team that likes Claude. One small team that tried Claude Tag found it the easiest shared AI to introduce, and still listed being Claude-only as a concern.

Which one gives admins more control, Claude Tag or Adapt?
Adapt gives admins more: identity-provider roles, budgets, traces, audit records, and on Enterprise, SSO, SCIM, SIEM export, and dedicated compute. Claude Tag gives admins the controls a Slack rollout needs: reply scope, search scope, guests, DMs, and spend limits.
Claude Tag's spend limits work at three levels: the organization, a default for channels, and specific channels. Narrowing where Claude replies and narrowing what it can search are separate settings.
Adapt's controls extend to where the agent runs. Enterprise customers can deploy it in their own VPC or on premises, with SOC 2 Type II.

What do Claude Tag and Adapt cost?
Claude Tag needs a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, and channel work is billed by usage. Adapt Managed costs $14 per user per month plus metered compute, storage, memory, and models.
Claude Tag
Claude Team or Enterprise + usage
- Team Standard: $20 per seat annually, $25 monthly
- Organization and per-channel spend limits
- Beta, Slack only
Adapt Managed
$14 per user per month + usage
- Compute: $0.045 per vCPU-hour while running
- Parked compute free; snapshots kept seven days
- 1,000 memories per user, then $0.50 per 1,000
Claude's Team plan is for 2 to 150 people; Enterprise is negotiated. Adapt's open-source runtime is listed at no software cost, with infrastructure and models paid by you.

So should you choose Claude Tag or Adapt?
Choose Claude Tag if you're on Claude Team or Enterprise and want a shared agent in Slack without a project. Choose Adapt if your technical team wants model routing, deeper governance, and control over where the agent runs.
Choose Claude Tag if…
- You already pay for Claude Team or Enterprise
- You want a teammate in Slack, not a platform
- Claude is the only model you need
Choose Adapt if…
- You want to route work across many models
- The agent must run in your VPC or on premises
- Your team wants budgets, traces, and SCIM
Is there a Claude Tag or Adapt alternative that's ready to use and not tied to one model?
Yes. Maito is ready like Claude Tag and runs on the AI provider you choose like Adapt, in Slack and your AI assistants, for $149 per workspace with unlimited people.
Choose a cheaper model for the workspace and a stronger one for coding, and your provider bills its own usage. Company knowledge stays with Maito when you change providers.
@Maito which onboarding step do trial accounts abandon most? Use the events in the warehouse for the last 90 days.
Connecting a data source. 58% of trials that stop do it there, and most of them hit the Postgres step. Their most common error is a timeout from the IP allowlist check, which takes 30 seconds. I opened PR #702 to show our IP ranges before the check runs, with a test.
