How do you write the monthly finance report?
To write the monthly finance report, set up a Loop in Maito after the close. It reads the numbers in QuickBooks or Xero and your plan in a spreadsheet, builds the P&L, cash view and charts, writes commentary on what moved and why, and attaches the pack for your finance lead to edit.
How it's done today
The finance pack takes days after close.
What Maito does
- Pull the closed numbers
- Build charts
- Draft commentary on big changes
Example
Loop run: September close finished
The September pack is drafted. Attached: northstar-sept-pack.xlsx, with P&L, cash and 6 charts. Headlines • Revenue $1.86M, up 6% on August and 3% over plan. • Gross margin 71%, down from 74%. • Cash $4.12M, down $212k. Why margin fell Hosting cost rose $58k after the August migration, and about $31k of it is duplicate hosting still running in the old account. That's the one to fix. Opex is $23k under plan, mostly because 2 hires started in October, not September. Source: Xero, closed Oct 6. Commentary is drafted, and not final.
@Maito add a short note on what the hosting fix is worth a year, then send me the edit version.
Added: $31k a month is about $372k a year if the old account stays on. Edit copy attached: northstar-sept-pack-v2.xlsx.

How to set it up
- Ask your agent
“After each month closes, draft the finance pack from Xero: P&L, cash, charts and commentary on big changes. Put it in a Microsoft 365 workbook and post it to #leadership for the CFO.”
- Connect accounting software
- QuickBooks
- Xero
- Connect spreadsheet
- Airtable
- Microsoft 365

What it won't do
Maito explains variances it can trace in the books. The commentary is a draft, and the finance lead owns the numbers and the message.
Questions
A spreadsheet with the P&L, cash and charts, plus a summary of headlines and what drove the changes.
QuickBooks or Xero for actuals, and Airtable or Microsoft 365 for the plan.
It sends the draft to the finance lead. Sending it to leadership happens after approval.
