Maito vs Adapt
Adapt is now a platform for company agents. Is it the same as Maito? And how much of the agent do you have to run yourself?
Which is better, Maito or Adapt?
Maito is the better pick if you want the finished teammate running this week, on the model you choose, with nobody owning a platform. Adapt is the better pick if the agent has to run in your VPC or on premises, or your technical team wants routing, budgets, and traces it controls.
Pick Maito for
- A ready teammate with nobody maintaining it
- Customer bugs from the support thread to a reply
- One price however many people join
Pick Adapt for
- Self-hosting, VPC, or on-premises deployment
- SCIM, budgets, traces, and SIEM audit export
- The lowest price for a small team
Adapt is a company agent platform you configure, with control over models, governance, and where it runs. Maito is one ready AI teammate your whole company works with in Slack, email, and its AI assistants. As of October 2026, managed Adapt charges $8 for every user plus metered usage, and Maito charges $149 for the workspace, however many people use it.
This guide is for a 10- to 50-person company deciding how much agent infrastructure it wants to own. We rechecked Adapt's product, enterprise, and pricing pages in October 2026.
What is Adapt?
Adapt is a company agent platform that combines a runtime, a company brain, model routing, connections, and governance, reachable in Slack, the web, email, and iMessage.
It connects by OAuth or API key to tools such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Notion, Linear, BigQuery, Snowflake, Stripe, QuickBooks, Zendesk, Greenhouse, and GitHub. Templates cover jobs like ad-spend checks, changelogs, issue-to-pull-request work, and website checks, and developers extend it with APIs, MCP, and a CLI.
Where Adapt is strong:
- A free open-source runtime you can host yourself, plus VPC and on-premises on Enterprise
- Groups, roles, budgets, traces, SCIM, and audit export to your SIEM
- Your own model keys at no markup

And what is Maito?
Maito is an AI teammate your company names and shares, in Slack, by email, and in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, Grok, and Muse, ready once your provider and tools are connected.
Anyone in an invited channel can ask it for work. It learns company facts and skills from shared work, runs Loops, and does business work in your connected tools. It's also the coding agent everyone shares: each task runs in its own sandbox with your checks and ends in a pull request.

How much of the agent do you run with Adapt and with Maito?
With Adapt, your team chooses and maintains the model path, templates, approvals, budgets, and deployment. With Maito, you choose the provider and connect tools; Maito runs the rest.
Adapt offers a free session with one of its engineers to design an agent, which shows how much there is to decide.
In Maito, the first request comes from whoever is in the Slack channel, the day you connect it.
Winner: Maito, for teams without an engineer to own an agent platform.

What do Maito and Adapt do with a business task?
Maito and Adapt can both do business work across your systems from Slack. With Maito, the same teammate everyone uses does it, and the result can become a Loop in the same thread.

@Maito before month-end close, match last month's Stripe payouts against QuickBooks deposits and list anything that doesn't line up.
312 payouts, 309 matched. Three don't: two were split across two deposits, and one $2,140 payout has no deposit at all. Details and the Stripe IDs are in the thread. Want me to run this check on the 2nd of every month?
Winner: Maito, for turning a one-off request into recurring work without building a template.
And what do Maito and Adapt do when a customer reports a bug?
Adapt turns issues into tested pull requests for human review. Maito starts from the customer's report in the support thread and carries it to a reproduction, a tested fix, a pull request, and the reply.
Illustrative conversation, not a recorded product test.
@Maito a customer says CSV imports fail when the file comes from Excel on a Mac. Ticket #2604.
Reproduced. Excel for Mac saves with a byte-order mark, and our importer reads it as part of the first column name. Recording attached. PR #355 strips the mark before parsing and adds a test file from Excel for Mac. Checks pass. Reply to the customer is drafted below, with a workaround until the fix ships.
Winner: Maito. Support starts it without an issue being filed first, and the customer gets the reply.

Do Maito and Adapt both remember your company?
Yes. Adapt's company brain combines knowledge, skills, memory, and live search across your systems. Maito learns facts and skills from shared threads and keeps personal memory for each person.
Adapt includes 1,000 memories per seat, then charges $0.50 per 1,000 a month.
Maito has no memory meter, and anyone can ask it to remember, correct, or forget a fact.
Winner: even. Both learn the company; Adapt adds live search, Maito adds no meter.

Is Adapt or Maito more secure?
As of October 2026, managed Adapt includes a SOC 2 Type II report and a standard DPA, with no training on your data, and Enterprise adds SSO, SCIM, SIEM audit export, regional data residency, and VPC or on-premises deployment. Maito encrypts credentials, records agent actions in an exportable log, and runs on your own AI provider account.
Maito has no self-hosted or VPC option. If your security team requires the agent on your own infrastructure, Adapt is the choice.
Winner: Adapt.

How long do Maito and Adapt take to set up?
Maito takes minutes: name it, connect your AI provider and Slack, and invite it to a channel. Adapt needs connections, an acting identity, templates, approval and budget rules, and, for self-hosting, your own deployment.
Winner: Maito.

What would ten people pay for a month of Maito or Adapt?
As of October 2026, ten people on managed Adapt pay $80 a month in seats plus metered compute and models. Maito stays at $149 for the workspace, with models billed through your own provider.
Maito
$149 per month + provider usage
- One workspace, unlimited people
- $20 in included credits for coding sandboxes and web search
- Your AI provider bills model usage separately
Adapt Managed
$80 per month for ten users + usage
- 10 × $8 seats
- Compute, storage, and egress metered while running
- Own model keys at no markup, or 5.5% via gateway
Adapt costs less at ten people. The two meet at about 19 people, and past that Adapt adds $8 for every new person while Maito stays at $149.
When is Adapt enough?
Adapt is enough when a technical team wants to own its company agent, with model routing, detailed governance, and the option to host it on its own infrastructure.
Can a team use Maito and Adapt together?
Yes, if they cover different work. A company can keep Adapt for a governed internal agent inside its own infrastructure and use Maito as the teammate everyone asks in Slack, by email, and in AI assistants.
What moves over when a team goes from Adapt to Maito?
Adapt's agent instructions, templates, and company brain carry over as text. Tool scopes, identities, and approval rules are set up again in Maito.
Paste the instructions and brain entries into a Maito thread and ask it to propose company memories and skills; you confirm each one before it's shared.
Adapt's scheduled jobs become Loops. Reconnect each tool with the identity it should act as, run the Loop once by hand, and pause the Adapt job before the first scheduled run so the same alert doesn't go out twice.

So should you choose Maito or Adapt?
Choose Maito for one ready AI teammate the whole company works with, on the AI provider you choose, without running a platform. Choose Adapt if your technical team wants control over the runtime, governance, and hosting.

- Nobody should have to maintain an agent platform
- You still want to choose the model and provider
- The team works in Slack, email, and its AI assistants
- Headcount will grow faster than the budget
Choose Adapt if…
- The agent must run in your VPC or on premises
- You want routing, budgets, traces, and SCIM
- A technical team will own the setup
