Maito vs Devin

Devin is the best-known AI software engineer. Is it the same as Maito? And does your support team need a seat to use it?

Dmitry Dubovetzky

Which is better, Maito or Devin?

Maito is the better pick if support, product, and sales should ask for code changes from the same agent engineering uses, without a seat each. Devin is the better pick if your developers want their own engineering agent with a desktop app, a CLI, and automated code review.

Pick Maito for

  • Support asks for a fix and gets the customer reply
  • Code and business work from one teammate
  • Knowledge the whole company shares

Pick Devin for

  • A desktop app and CLI for each developer
  • Automations from PagerDuty, Jira, and GitHub events
  • SOC 2 Type II and dedicated enterprise deployments

Devin is built around developers: their seats, their memory, their desktop and terminal. Maito is the coding agent your whole company shares, and it does business work in the same threads. As of October 2026, Devin Teams costs $40 per full seat with an $80 monthly minimum; Maito costs $149 per workspace with unlimited people.

This guide is for a product company where support and sales need code fixes as often as engineers do. We rechecked Devin's docs and billing pages in October 2026.

What is Devin?

Devin is Cognition's AI software engineer: cloud coding sessions, a desktop app and CLI, code review, a data analyst mode, and automations, reachable from Slack, Linear, GitHub, and its web app.

In Slack, each user links their Slack profile to a Devin account by matching email. A mention starts a session, follow-ups continue in the thread or a code channel, and quick codebase questions get answered without a full session.

Devin can start your app, test it in a browser, and attach a video of the test to its result. Its data analyst mode queries connected databases and builds charts.

Where Devin is strong:

  • A desktop app, a CLI, and code review for each developer
  • Automations triggered by GitHub, GitLab, Linear, Jira, Pylon, PagerDuty, and webhooks
  • SOC 2 Type II, with dedicated deployments for enterprise customers

And what is Maito?

Maito is one coding agent for everyone in the company, not only developers, and it handles business work too, in Slack, by email, and in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, Grok, and Muse.

Anyone in an invited Slack channel can ask it for a feature, a fix, a refactor, a review, QA, or tests, without a seat or a linked account. Each task gets its own sandbox and branch, runs your checks, and ends in a pull request your engineers review. Engineers can work with the same agent from Cursor, Codex, or Claude. It also does research, reports, and follow-ups in your connected tools.

Who on your team can work with Maito and Devin?

Anyone in an invited Slack channel can ask Maito for work, without an account. Devin needs each Slack user linked to a Devin account, with a full seat for daily developers or a free flex seat for occasional users.

Flex seats draw on the team's shared on-demand credit and don't include the desktop app, which lets support or product people use Devin now and then.

In Maito, a support lead, a product manager, and an engineer reply in the same thread, and the engineer can pick it up later from Cursor. DMs stay private.

Winner: Maito. People outside engineering ask without an account, a seat, or a credit pool to watch.

And what do Maito and Devin do when a customer reports a bug?

Maito and Devin can both reproduce a bug in the browser, record it, fix it, and open a pull request. Maito also brings the support side into the same thread: the ticket, the evidence from your tools, and a reply drafted for the customer.

@Maito a customer on Safari can't drag cards between columns on the board view. Ticket #3307.

Maito APP 2:31 PM

Reproduced on Safari 18. Video attached: the drop event never fires because the drag image is set after the drag starts. PR #841 sets it on dragstart and adds a Safari test. Checks pass, and QA passed on the preview.

Devin connects to support tools such as Pylon, where it picks up delegated tickets and relays updates. Its built-in Pylon tools don't create or send customer replies.

Winner: Maito. The support teammate who got the ticket starts the fix and gets the reply back, without a Devin account.

What do Maito and Devin do with a business task?

Maito does business work across your connected tools with what it knows about your company. Devin's business work centers on its data analyst mode, which queries connected databases and builds charts.

Winner: Maito. Research, reports, and follow-ups in sales, ops, and finance tools are core work, not a side mode.

What does Devin remember, and what does Maito remember?

Devin keeps personal memory for each user, which teammates don't share, plus shared skills for team procedures. Maito keeps company knowledge the whole workspace shares, plus personal memory for each person.

Devin stores each user's preferences, corrections, and lessons as Markdown notes in a Git repository. Automated sessions don't read or write that memory, and shared conventions belong in skills.

Maito learns facts from shared threads, such as a pricing rule or how a feature behaves, and saves good results as skills anyone can reuse.

Winner: Maito. What one person teaches it, the next person benefits from.

Can Maito and Devin both run work every week?

Yes. Devin runs automations from schedules and engineering events, and Maito runs Loops from a schedule, a Slack message, an email, or a webhook any system can send.

Devin's automations combine a trigger, conditions, an optional script check, and actions, with built-in sources such as GitHub, GitLab, Linear, Jira, Pylon, and PagerDuty. On Teams they draw from shared on-demand credit and stop when it runs out.

Maito's Loops handle coding and business work alike, such as the Monday revenue summary or a nightly check of failed payments, and anyone can pause or change them.

Winner: Devin for engineering events out of the box. Maito for recurring work anyone in the company sets up, including business work.

Is Devin or Maito more secure?

As of October 2026, Cognition has held SOC 2 Type II since September 2024 and offers dedicated deployments that keep enterprise data in the customer's tenant. Maito encrypts credentials, logs every agent action for admins, and sends model requests to your own AI provider account.

Cognition doesn't train its models on customer code by default.

Maito runs each coding task in its own sandbox on your workspace's cloud computer, and admins can export the action log and set its retention. For sensitive repositories, switch a thread to Supervised so Maito asks before each command or edit.

Winner: Devin, for teams whose security review needs a SOC 2 report or a dedicated deployment.

How long do Maito and Devin take to set up?

Maito is ready in minutes once you connect an AI provider, Slack, and a repository. Devin needs each Slack user linked to a Devin account, plus repository and environment setup before its first session.

Winner: Maito, for getting people outside engineering asking on day one.

What would ten people pay for a month of Maito or Devin?

As of October 2026, two developers on full Devin seats and eight people on flex seats cost $80 a month plus shared usage. Maito costs $149 a month plus your AI provider's usage, with no seats.

Maito

$149 per month + provider usage

  • One workspace, unlimited people
  • $20 in included credits for coding sandboxes and web search
  • Your AI provider bills model usage separately

Devin Teams

$80 per month + on-demand usage

  • 2 × $40 full seats meets the $80 minimum
  • Eight flex seats at no seat fee
  • Flex work and automations draw on shared credit

Devin's bill grows with every developer who needs a full seat and with flex usage. Maito's stays at $149 however many people ask.

When is Devin enough?

Devin is enough when the people asking for AI help are mostly developers who want their own agent in a desktop app and terminal, and nobody outside engineering needs code changes.

Can we use Maito and Devin together?

Yes. Developers can keep Devin in their editor and terminal while the rest of the company asks Maito in Slack, by email, and in their AI assistants.

Point requests from support, product, and sales at Maito, and let developers keep their personal Devin sessions.

What carries over when a team adds Maito next to Devin?

Repository instructions, setup commands, and open branches stay in your repository, so Maito reads them on its first task. Devin's shared skills carry over as text.

Paste Devin's shared skills into a Maito thread and ask it to save them as skills. Personal memory stays with each developer.

Let open Devin sessions finish their pull requests. Devin automations become Loops; run each once by hand and turn the Devin one off before the first scheduled run.
