How do you check a site for broken links and pages?

To check a site for broken links and pages, set a Loop in Maito for a weekly crawl. It visits every page of your site or docs, tests each link and image, and posts the broken ones in Slack with the page they are on. It also marks problems on high-traffic pages first.

How it's done today

Broken links pile up quietly.

What Maito does

  1. Crawl the site
  2. Check every link and image
  3. Report problems with where they are

Example

Loop run: Monday 8:00 AM · Docs link check

docs
Maito APP 8:07 AM

Crawled 412 pages, 3,860 links and 96 images on docs.northstar.example. 6 broken links on 4 pages, 1 missing image. • /guides/webhooks: 2 links to /api/v1/events return 404 • /guides/sso: the link to Okta's old setup page is gone (410) • /changelog/2026-09: 2 links to deleted blog drafts • /quickstart: 1 link goes into a redirect loop • /guides/export: export-step3.png is missing Catch: /quickstart is linked from the signup page, so every new user who reaches step 3 hits the loop. Found by crawling the live site.

@Maito what should the events links point to?

Maito APP 8:32 AM

/api/events. It returns 200 and has the same section heading. For SSO I'd remove the link, because the old Okta page is gone. Want me to draft the edits?

How to set it up

On a schedule Check for broken links and pages
Ask your agent

“Every Monday at 8, crawl docs.northstar.example and check every link and image. Post the broken ones, with the page they're on, in #docs.”

What it won't do

It finds links that fail when it visits. A link that works but points to the wrong page is not something it can tell.
