How do you find out who owns something?

To find out who owns something, mention Maito in Slack and name it, such as the pricing page. Maito answers from what your team has told it, splits ownership by area, shows where each rule came from, flags past exceptions, and can email the owners on your behalf.

How it's done today

People ask around in several channels.

What Maito does

  1. Search docs, ownership lists and history
  2. Name the owner and how to reach them

@Maito who owns the pricing page?

Maito APP 2:06 PM

It depends what you want to change. • Copy and layout: Priya, marketing. Kate named her owner in a thread on Aug 14. • Prices and discounts: Dana. Any price change needs her OK, a rule from a Mar 2 thread. • Checkout and the code behind it: Leo's team. Reach Priya in #marketing, or email priya@northstar.example. Catch: Sam edited the Enterprise price on May 9 without Dana's OK. It was fixed two days later, so I'd go through Dana for any number.

Tom 2:09 PM

@Maito thanks. Email Priya and Dana that we're updating the Enterprise tier next week.

Sent to both, from maito@northstar.example, with you copied. I'll post their replies here.

How to set it up

When you ask Answer "who owns this?"
Set up

Nothing to set up. Ask in Slack or by email whenever you need it.

What it won't do

It only knows what it has been told, so ownership that was never discussed in a shared conversation is invisible to it. Keep owners up to date by telling it when they change.
