Claude Tag vs Adapt

Claude Tag gives you Anthropic's Claude in Slack. Adapt gives you a platform for your own company agent. Which one should your team pick? And how much control do you really need?

Which is better, Claude Tag or Adapt?

Claude Tag is better if you want a shared Claude in Slack this week with nothing to build. Adapt is better if a platform team needs model routing, its own hosting, or SCIM.

Pick Claude Tag for

  • A shared agent in Slack with nothing to run
  • A company already paying for Claude seats
  • ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 certificates

Pick Adapt for

  • Routing work across many models or own keys
  • Running the agent in your VPC or on premises
  • The lowest seat price for ten people

Claude Tag is a ready shared agent from Anthropic that runs only on Claude and only in Slack. Adapt is a company agent platform that routes work across many models, reaches Slack, the web, email, and iMessage, and can run on your own infrastructure.

Claude Tag makes most decisions for you: one model family, one chat app, Anthropic's cloud. Adapt leaves them to you: which models, which keys, which templates, which deployment. For a team that trusts Claude and lives in Slack, fewer decisions is the point. For a team with a platform group and strict requirements, the decisions are the point.

This guide is for a company on Claude Team weighing a ready Slack agent against a platform its engineers would run. If Anthropic's hosting and Claude models already pass your policy review, Adapt's extra decisions buy you nothing. We rechecked both products' pricing and security pages on October 20, 2026.

What is Claude Tag best at?

Claude Tag is best at getting one capable Claude working in Slack channels with little ongoing effort, once an owner has set it up.

A Claude organization Owner and a Slack admin connect credentials and repositories and choose channels. After that, anyone allowed can tag Claude, steer the shared session, and get pull requests from the Claude GitHub App. Memory is kept per channel, per DM, and for the workspace.

What is Adapt best at?

Adapt is best at running a company agent your way: model routing or your own keys, detailed governance, and deployment in your VPC or on premises.

It connects to tools like Salesforce, Linear, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Stripe, and GitHub; keeps a company brain of knowledge, skills, memory, and live search; and turns issues into tested pull requests. Governance includes scopes, approvals on named actions, budgets, traces, identity-provider roles, and audit records.

How do Claude Tag and Adapt compare at a glance?

Claude Tag is ready but tied to Claude and Slack. Adapt is open to any model and surface but asks for platform decisions.

Why does model choice matter between Claude Tag and Adapt?

With Claude Tag, every task runs on Claude at Claude's rates. With Adapt, routine work can go to cheaper models and hard work to the strongest, or run on keys you already pay for.

For a team doing lots of routine work, such as summaries, triage, and weekly reports, routing changes the bill. Adapt charges no markup on your own model keys and 5.5% over list price through its gateway.

Winner: Adapt. A company that wants more than one model vendor has only one choice here.

Which one gives admins more control, Claude Tag or Adapt?

Adapt gives admins more: identity-provider roles, budgets, traces, audit records, and on Enterprise, SSO, SCIM, SIEM export, and dedicated compute. Claude Tag gives admins the controls a Slack rollout needs: reply scope, search scope, guests, DMs, and spend limits.

Claude Tag's spend limits work at three levels: the organization, a default for channels, and specific channels. Narrowing where Claude replies and narrowing what it can search are separate settings.

Adapt's controls extend to where the agent runs and which identity it acts as, with budgets and traces for every run.

Winner: Adapt for a platform team that wants budgets, traces, and SCIM. Claude Tag for an admin who only needs to decide which channels get Claude.

Is Claude Tag or Adapt more secure?

As of October 2026, Anthropic holds SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, and ISO 42001, and Claude Enterprise adds SCIM, audit logs, custom retention, and a HIPAA-ready offering. Managed Adapt includes a SOC 2 Type II report and a standard DPA, and Adapt Enterprise adds SSO, SCIM, SIEM export, and VPC or on-premises deployment.

Claude Tag starts guest channels on Restrict, which blocks Claude, and deletes its conversations within 30 days of disconnecting.

Adapt doesn't train on your data, and its open-source runtime lets a security team keep the whole agent inside its own network.

Winner: Claude Tag for a vendor review that asks for ISO certificates or a HIPAA option. Adapt when the agent has to run on your own infrastructure.

Which is faster to set up, Claude Tag or Adapt?

Claude Tag needs a Claude organization Owner or Primary Owner and a Slack admin to pair the workspaces, connect credentials, and enable channels once. Adapt needs connections, an acting identity, templates, and approval and budget rules, plus your own deployment when you self-host.

Adapt offers a free session with one of its engineers to design the first agent. Claude Tag needs no design session, because the choices are already made.

Winner: Claude Tag, especially for a company already on Claude Team or Enterprise.

What do Claude Tag and Adapt cost?

As of October 2026, Claude Tag needs a Claude Team Standard seat at $25 a month, or $20 billed yearly, for 2 to 150 people, and channel work is billed to the organization by usage. Adapt Managed costs $8 per user per month plus metered compute at $0.045 per vCPU-hour, memory, and models.

For ten people, here's the month before usage:

Claude Tag

$250 per month for ten seats + usage

  • 10 × $25 Team Standard seats billed monthly, or $200 yearly
  • Channel work billed to the organization by usage
  • Spend limits per organization and per channel

Adapt Managed

$80 per month for ten users + usage

  • 10 × $8 seats
  • Compute metered at $0.045 per vCPU-hour while running
  • Own model keys at no markup, or 5.5% through the gateway

Claude seats also buy each person Claude itself, so a company already paying for them adds only the channel usage. Adapt's bill grows with compute hours and models, which routing keeps down.

Winner: Adapt on seat price. Claude Tag when your company already pays for Claude seats anyway.

How do Claude Tag and Adapt handle the same access review?

Ask Claude Tag and Adapt for a read-only list of services that need approval, with their owners. Warehouse belongs to Ops and Payments to Finance; Docs needs no approval.

It's a small job on purpose. In Claude Tag, the work starts once an organization Owner has enabled the channel. In Adapt, you first decide which identity the agent acts as and which tools it can read. Neither should change a permission, and the time it took to get there tells you how much platform you're signing up for.

What carries over between Claude Tag and Adapt?

Instructions and company knowledge carry over as text. Claude Tag's channel notes and Adapt's company brain both export as readable context; connections and routines are set up again.

Bring only workspace-level notes, not private-channel ones, and recreate each routine with the identity it should act as.

So should you choose Claude Tag or Adapt?

Choose Claude Tag if you're on Claude Team or Enterprise and want a shared agent in Slack without a project. Choose Adapt if your technical team wants model routing, deeper governance, and control over where the agent runs.

Choose Claude Tag if…

  • You already pay for Claude Team or Enterprise
  • You want a teammate in Slack, not a platform
  • Claude is the only model you need

Choose Adapt if…

  • You want to route work across many models
  • The agent must run in your VPC or on premises
  • Your team wants budgets, traces, and SCIM

Is there a Claude Tag or Adapt alternative that's ready to use and not tied to one model?

Yes. Maito is ready like Claude Tag and runs on the AI provider you choose like Adapt, in Slack, email, and your AI assistants, for $149 per workspace with unlimited people.

Choose a cheaper model for the workspace and a stronger one for coding, and your provider bills its own usage. Company knowledge stays with Maito when you change providers.

Maito APP 2:31 PM

Connecting a data source. 58% of trials that stop do it there, and most of them hit the Postgres step. Their most common error is a timeout from the IP allowlist check, which takes 30 seconds. I opened PR #702 to show our IP ranges before the check runs, with a test.
